London, Aug. 11. The bootmakers have agreed to the proposition that 48 hours shall constitute a week’s labor. Aug. 13. Mr Wilson, member for Middlesex, and secretary of the Seamen’s Union, was fined £5 5s for persuading seamen to desert their ships. New Yoke, Aug. 11. The Pittsburg mills are employing 40,000, and with the exception of Carnegie’s have conceded the demands of the men. Sydney, Aug. 12. The Broken Hill strikers are drawing £13,000 worth of supplies weekly. The leaders assert they have sufficient to carry on for three or four months, even if they receive no further assistance. Wellington, Aug. 13. The Trades and Labor Council recommded several alterations in the Industrial Bill, including absolute reference to a court of arbitration of any dispute which the district board cannot satisfactorily settle, and if the Bill is so amended registration of unions and associations to be made compulsory.
