AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD
The monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present Messrs J. Ashwell (chairman), A, Frew, E. Brown, E. Carr, and L. Russell. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read From the Clerk Geraldine County Council, asking for information as to the number of members upon the board, the same being required by Government.— Attended to on receipt. From Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, M.H.R., forwarding, for the information of the board, copy of letter sent to the clerk of the Temuka Town Board in response to a circular letter from ratepayers relative to the vesting of the Domain and Cemetery Boards in an elective body. From the Commissioner of Crown Lauds, stating that the Land Board approved of the proposals for the expenditure of the “thirds” accrued in respect of village settlement allotments, in accordance with the overseer’s letter of 12th instant. From the Commissioner of Taxes, advising that the declaration made under The Local Bodies Powers and Finance Act” should have had a stamp to the value of 2s 6d attached to it.—Attended to. From the Audit Inspector, covering account for annual audit. From Mr W. Wills, resigning his position as returning officer, as he was leaving the district. RESERVES. Mr Frew moved—“ That the occupiers of reserves whose rents are unpaid be immediately summoned.” Three names were drawn by lot, and the clerk was instructed to notify the persons interested that legal proceedings would be taken against them at the expiration of three days unless their rents are paid. RATE. On the motion of Mr Frew, seconded by Mr Carr, it was resolved —“ That the board, at its next meeting, make and levy a rate of three farthings in the £ on all rateable property in the Town District of Arowhenua.” overseer’s report. The overseer reported verbally as to repairs, etc., required jn Wilkin street, in accordance with Mr McCaskill’s application. He had notified the Crown Lands Department relative to the spread of gorse on General Government reserve. RETURNING OFJ^CER. The question of appointing a Returning Officer iias considered, and QU the motion of Mr Frew, seconded by Mr Brown, it was resolved--- 11 That the clerk, Mr A-. Gaze, be appointed Returning Officer for the Arowhenua Town District at the remuneration formerly paid to Mr Wills.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts presented were held over till next meeting, and the meeting terminated.
