Sydney, Aug. 6. Mr Thomas Walker, M.L.A., who while under the influence of liquor shot the Rev. Mr Lasceron in a railway carraige on a suburban line, stood his trial to-day, the jury returning a verdict acquitting the accused.
Aug. 7. At the Amateur Athletic Meeting yesterday, Morpeth, of Wellington, won the five-mile cross-country championship in 28min 9sec. He led from the start to the finish. In the will of Mr Harrison, wool merchant, a provision is made for the establishment and endowment of a college of music, similar to the Paris and Vienna institutions. Brisbane, Aug. 5. The Government having declared they would' regard Mr Donaldson’s amendment to the Constitution Bill as a vote of censure, it has been withdrawn.
