ARBOR DAY AT RNGITATA STATION.
Thursday was observed at Rangitata Station as a holiday for the celebration of Arbor Day, and, as many in the district interested themselves in the event, a very enjoyable day was the outcome. A tree was provided for each child attending the school, and as holes had been dug in different parts of the school ground very little trouble was experienced in planting them, the children holding them while the earth was placed around the roots. A feature of the proceedings was that every child was provided with a stake, with name attached, aud thus every tree has a special interest for the child who planted it. After the trees h a d been planted, the children assembled ' n the school, and, after singing a few .songs, were regaled with tea and cake, kindly provided by ladies in the for whom dicers were given before the children dispersed to their homes. Thanks are dne to Messrs Pye (Geraldine) and Porter (Ashburton) for donations of trees. In the evening a most enjoyable social was held, the music being supplied by Messrs Taylor and Haar, whjle Mr Watson kindly apted as M.C.
