GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening. Present — Messrs A. White (chairman), J. Williams, W. S. Maslin, J. Mundell, A. Sherratt, and N. Dunlop. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received and dealt with as under From Mr W. Shiers, stating that owing to pressure of work he was unable to to comply with the board's request re preparing plans for a new concrete bridge over the creek on the Pleasant Valley Road. —As the present board’s term of office will soon expire it was agreed that this matter be left for the incoming board to deal with. From Mr C. T. Dierck, asking to have the name of Mrs Kennedy placed on the rate roll as occupier of Sections 87 and 89, Geraldine. —Granted. INTERVIEW. Mr Ramble waited on the board, asking them to give him, for his cattle, access from his section to the water race.—Tiie Works Committee to report by next meeting. TENDER. The tender of Messrs Priest & Holdgate for drain pipes was accepted. GOVERNMENT AUDIT. The chairman intimated that the Government Auditor had examined the. board’s books and found everything correct. It was resolved that a precis of the balance sheet be advertised in the Geraldine Guardian. overseer’s report. The overseer’s report on work done was read, and among other things showed that a branch water race had been formed from Warner’s corner across Wilson street into Mr Connelly’s section, past the Presbyterian Church, and through the small bush park, and thence into the river. A footbridge had also been erected near the Public School at the junction of Cox street and the Cemetery Road. DRAINAGE. The chairman explained that since last meeting the Works Committee had considered the matter of the drainage of the upper part of the town. An idea was suggested by Mr Maslin of taking the water race water through Wilson street and the little park, and thence into the river. This idea had been carried out, and so far worked admirably. SHINGLING. It was left with the Works Committee
to have shingle put on roads where it is required. BATES. The clerk was instructed to write to all persons whose rates are one quarter in arrears, and demand immediate payment. OBSTRUCTING TRAFFIC. The following resolution was unanimously passed by the board—“ That the Salvation Army and others parading the streets with band and torches be requested to facilitate the traffic passing and repassing, by directingthe band to cease playing, andgiviug as much opportunity as possible for restive horses to pass, and thus prevent accident.” PAY SHEET. The pay sheet amounted to £27 12s 4d. The board then rose. GERALDINE BOARD OF HEALTH. The above board met on Tuesday evening, there being present Messrs A. White (chairman), J. MUbddl, W, S. Maslin, A. Bherratt, and J. WilliamsFACTORY ACT. The chairman stated that Geraldine had been proclaimed as being under the Factory’s Act, and this necessitated a change in some factoxy rooms, Mr J. W. Pye, who had received notice to alter his dressmaker’s room, applied for three months extension of time, that he might have a new building erected. It was resolved— ■“ That Mr Pye be granted the necessary time, so that he may comply with the requirements of the Factory Act.” The board then rose.
