FUNERAL OF LADY ACLAND.

The funeral of the late Lady Aclan wife of the Right Hon. Sir T. D. A eland Bart, (says the Devon and Exeter Daily Gazette of May 27), took place at Columb John, about a mile from Killerton. In accordance with the expressed wish by her ladyship, the ceremony was conducted as quietly as possible. The funeral cortege left Killerton House at half-past 3 o'dock. The coffin, on which, at the request of her ladyship, was laid only a wreath and a cross, was conveyed on an open bier. The latter was covered with beautiful (1 >wers. Next came the carriages containing the principal mourners, as follows : First carriage, Sir T. D. Aland and Mrs Hart Davis ; second carriage, Mr F. H. Anson, Mrs Anson, Mr C. T. D. Acland, M.P., and Mrs Acland ; third carriage, Mr Arthur Acland, M.P., Mrs Arthur Acland, Sir Henry W. D. Acland, and Mrs O. Bere ; fourth carriage, Mr Arthur Mills, Mr P. L. D. Acland, Mr J. B. Acland, and Mrs J. B. Acland; fifth carriage, Miss Hart Davis, Miss Mary Hart Davis, Mr W. Wickham, and Mrs J. Dunn ; sixth carriage, Mr R. B. D. Acland, Miss Hook, Mr B. Acland, and Mrs B. Acland; seventh earriage, Captain D. Mills and the Bev. H. D. Acland; eighth carriage, Dr Blomfield, Mr Somer, the Eev. W. David, and Mr W. J. Battisfield ; ninth carriage, Mrs Lethersole, Mrs Groves, and Mrs Cox ; tenth carriage, servants. Then followed the tenantry. The first portion of the burial service was conducted in the chapel, the officiating clergy being the Rev. Prebendary Acland, SubDean (Vicar of Broadclyst), and the Rer. R. H. Hart Davis (Vice of Dunsden, Oxon). The members of the Broadclyst Church choir were present, and during the service the hymns " O help up, Lord, each hour of need !" and " Jesus lives !" were sung. The place of interment is situate immediately outside the chapel. The coffin was borne to the grave by workmen on the estate. It was of oak, with gilt and black mountings, and bore the following inscription : Mary Acland, Born 13th June, 1806 ; Died 14th May, 1892. The service was of a most impressive character. The musical portion was conducted by Mr Maddock, organist of Broadclyst. Wreaths were sent by Lady Walrond, Lady Duckworth, and Miss Duckworth, Lady Acland Hood, Colonel and Miss Chichester, Mr and Mrs Troyte, Miss L. Cartwright, Mrs Sanders, Miss S. Hoare, Mrs C. H. Hoare, Mr and Mrs Hancock, Mr and Mrs Bayne, Mrs Acland (Oxford) and brothers, the Rev. H. P. Cronshaw, Mrs Penn, Mrs A. Walrond, Misses L. and K. Hook, Mr and Mrs Clarke (Hornisote), Mr and Mrs Luttrell, Mrs Stevens and children, Mrs W. Holland, Mrs W. F. Richards, the mistress and the scholars at Budlake, teachers and scholars at Selworthy School. Among those present at the grave-side were: Lord Clinton, Canon Edmonds, the Revs. F. Sterry, P. Williams, F. Terry Mundy (Cornwood), C. P. Whittaker, H. Mitchell (Stinsford Vicarage, Dorchester), Fox-Strangways, and H. P. Cronshaw ; Mr A. M. H. Walrond, J.P., Mr W. T. Bayne, J.P., Mr W. Leverton, Surgeon-Major Scanlan, Messrs E. H. Harbottle, G. Colson, C. Pearse, T. H. Seymour, G. Eland, P, F. Rowsell, and E. C. Rowe (Exeter), J. Pride, S. Mardon, T. Carnall (Southmolton), and J. Stevens (steward of the Killerton Estate,) and a large number of the tenantry.
