A VIRULENT ATTACK.
London, July 27. The Investors’ Review states that the London and Westminster Bank, while trying to stop the issue of the Victorian Loan, received for an answer that the Government must have the money, If the loan were not raised the colony would have to become a defaulter. “ Government extravagance/’ the Review remarks, “is the curse qf the cplony, formerly it was the richest and most resourceful of all, and now it is one of the poorest and most debt-ridden. Its credit has tremendously depreciated, and until it repents its ways investors will trust no more of its securities.” The article proceeds to severely attack Ne\y Zealand, whose dpbt has pu; teased 860 per pent., while its population has only increased 150 per cent. It asserts that the taxation proposed by the Balance Government is unjust to British pwners, (pul will bear bitter fruit in the grim struggle that Is coming.
