Washington, July 2L The Tick, manager of Carnegie’s mills, has been shot by a Russian Jew_ He received four wounds, and lies in a critical condition. Many of the strikers express approval of the crime. A movement is on foot, which promises to be successful, to stop the manufacture of coke, throughout the United States, in sympathy with the Pittfffiwg strikers. Mr Carnegie has offered to reinstate the strikers on condition that they would resign connection with union. Four thousand refused, and were replaced by non-unionists. A boycott is being organised. The Daily News correspondent wires that the strike will develop into a life and death struggle. New York, July 23, Mr Tick, the manager of Carnegie’s mills, who was shot by a Russian Jew, is likely to recover from his wounds. On the would-be assassin being taken into custody two dynamite cartridges were found in his mouth, and it is believed he intended suicide. The accused is thought to be a crazy Anarchist. Repeated attempts have been made to poison the whole of Tick’s family. One hundred and fifty of Carnegie’s employees in Duquesne have struck in sympathy with those already out at the homestead, Melbourne, July 26. Ballarat miners have voted £SOO to the Broken Hill strikers. Sydney, July 20. The Trades and Labor Council have voted £330 in aid of the Broken HiR strikers.
