DISASTER IN SWITZERLAND.

Berlin, July 12. The catastrophe at St. Gervais was caused by glacier ice falling in and diverting a mountain torrent. The accident happened at 2 o'clock in the morning, and was so sudden that half the village was demolished. Two other villages were submerged, and seventy-five tourists were killed. July 18. A portion of the Bionnay glacier fell, diverted the flood waters, and de- | strayed the St. Gervais bath-houses which were full of sleeping tourists. It is feared that the death list will reach 200. The water was 100 feet deep. A physician who heard the noise saved fifteen persons by a timely alarm.
