THE HOME ELECTIONS.
London, July 12. The Liberals gain the Chesterfield division of Derby (Mr Thos. Bayley), the Woodstock division of Oxford (Mr G. R. Benson), Egremont (Mr D. Ainsworth), and Doncaster (Mr Fleming). The former members nave been ro-elected for East Tyrone, Fareham (Hants), East Kerry, the South division of Norfolk, Rye, Caithnesshire, Luton, North-East division of Derby, Wellington division of Shropshire, Newmarket, Knutsford, Tory quay, Birr, Spalding, Ross, Basingstoke, East Aberdeen, Southern division of Monmouth, South Deny, and South Down. Tory candidates have been elected for Epsom (Mr Bucknell), Teck (Mr Ball), North Antrim (Mr Connor), North-West division of Stratford (MiHeath), Sevenoaks (Mr Frost). Liberal candidates have been elected for Morley (Mr Hutton), Launceston (Mr Owen), South division of Somerset (Mr Strachey). Mr Derilly, a Nationalist, was re-elected for May. July 13. The polling contiuues to be unusually heavy. The Conservatives and Unionists have attained 1,518,131 votes, the Home Rulers and Labor candidates 1,598,237. The net gain of the Home Rulers is 36 seats. The Liberal Unionists have lost 15 seats, including Greenock, and won six. The Times expects a majority in favor of Home Rule of between 20 and 30. Orange demonstrations were held all over Ulster yesterday, to protest against Home Rule. A shot was fired at the returning officer at Newton, smashing the pipe in his mouth. There is an impression that it was intended to shoot Mr Leigh, the new member. Freeman's Journal predicts that Mr Gladstone wiil have a majority of 50. It urges that Ireland must be made independent of the domination of priests, and demands their legal suppression. Boston Irishmen have subscribed £2500 towards the expenses of the McCarthy party. It is believed that Mr Gladstone will have a large majority, The Times says there will have to be another election next year to a certainty, and that the Unionists will have to prepare to battle for the integrity of the Empire. The Chronicle thinks that the Liberal revival is due to he timpulse given by the trade unions. Speculation is already rife as to the new Ministers. It is thought probable that Mr H. H. Fowler will be Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Labouchere Home Secretary, Lord Carington Secretary for the Colonies, and Mr Shaw LeFevre Secretary for Ireland. In the Edinburgh election Mr Gladstone polled 5750, and his opponent (Col. Wauchope) 5077. Mr Gladstone won 11 seats to-day. The Liberals gain the Acrington division of Lancashire (Mr- ,). JT. Lees), Middleton (Mr C. H, Hopgood), Cplne Valley (Mr Kitson), Gainsborough (Mr J. Bennett, Radnorshire (Mr Edwards), Houghton - le - Spring (Mr Fenwick), Frome (Mr Barlow), Roxburghshire (Hon. M. F. Napier), North Lonsdale (Mr Sioitj].), Eastern division of Norfolk (Mr Prince}, Duraba4qnshire (Mr Sinclair), Darwin (Mr Huntington), Mald.qn (Mr Dodd), South Ayr (Mr Watson). The Tories gain Hexham, Mr Clayton; North-West Lanarkshire, Mr Whitelaw. The former members have been returned fav goutlyport, Tamworth, Hornsey Middle division oi Lanark, %atj?orflr on-Avon, Stirlingshire, West division of Dorset, Herford, Western Fife, Eastern Perth, Mid-divisiou of Northampton, Totnes, Ormskirk, Eastbourne, Romford, Hyde, North-West Meath, Montgomery, Chester, Isle of Thanet, Whitby, 'Buckingham, gouth Kijksnny, Ruffby, Bomin, South-East .Cork, Hkddingtpjishire, Newbury," "Eastern division of Caermarthenshire, Middjyjsion of Glamorgan, Elgin, and Nairn. [These returns giyo 1A 12 iyiherals, 3 Unionists,' and 3 Nationalists, according to last year's classification.] Tpries have been elected for Howden - shire division, Ml? Todd ; Droitwich, MiMartin ; Nuneton, Mr Newdigate; Epping, Mr Lockwood ; Chelmsford, Mr Osborne; Dumfries, Mr Maxwell. Mr Hayden, Parnellite, has been elected for South Roscommon, and Mr Mains, Nationalist, for North Poneaa], ftfp Cojstonw; a IVy, has )>ppn efeptgd for Thombury; Mr FirtHam, a Nationalist, for South Meath; M}' Tim, Healey for North Wexford, Mr Win. RtsUinUiid ' East Clare. Mr Gladstone's majority was 007, and the Unionists declare'that it was virtually a defeat. The former member- for Carjow was reelected. The Liberals gain Argylcshire (Mr Macfarlane.) The former members were re-elected for Renfrew, Beddington (Cheshiro), Otley (Yorkshire), Harborough, Sunderland, and Kinross. Mr Coningsby Disraeli, Conservative, was re-elected for Bowden (Cheshire), and Mr Whitaker, Home Ruler, for Spen Valley (Yorkshire). Mr W. Redmond boat Mr J. R. Cox by 400 at East Clare. The railway was cut near Clare to prevent a special train, conveying voters
i reaching the place in time. Precaution I had been taken, however, to send a detached engine on ahead, and this saved the train. The engine was c .psized, but the three men on it escaped unhurt. The Liberal ery throughout the Midlothian election was " Vote for the Grand Old Working Man." The Tory cry was " Vote for a Resident and the Church of Scotland." The Tories had a monopoly of the carriages, and they claim a majority in Edinburgh. The miners, workmen, and Irishmen voted for Mr Gladstone. Churchmen voted for Colonel Wauchope. July 14. The latest returns give—Liberals and Irish members, 265 ; Conservatives, 230 • Unionists, 38.
