WINCHESTER SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Winchester committee was held on the 27th, all the members being present. Several letters were received from the master bearing upon the question of newspapers being read in the school; also in his report he asked that the matter be brought before the Board of Education. — Resolved :—“ That the matter be brought before a meeting of householders as the proper persons to prove the truth, or otherwise, of the committee’s assertion, if it is the wish of the master.” The Rev. J oseph White was given the committee’s vote in respect to the vacancy on the board. The caretaker reported that on Thursday last the door of which she has the key was blocked with a form being placed against it inside, and so she was not able to get in, and the same obstruction occurred that evening. Resolved : « That the chairman obtain extra keys for the doors, to be kept by the caretaker.” Mrs Webster interviewed the committee, complaining that she had been accused of carrying reports to certain members of the school committee, and asking if it was so.—The members appealed ffeo denied having heard any such report •ffea Mrs Webster, or any of her family. were then read from parents, who are sending their children to other schools, complaining of the inconvenience and hardship that they were put to in having to do so, as they found that their children had been doing no good under the present master, and asking the committee to make a change of headmaster. Proposed by Mr Collie, seconded by Mr Naughton : -- £< That these letters from parents, together with the resolution re newspapers being read in school, with all correspondence thereon, be sent to the Board of Education ; and that this committee recommend that the master be given three mouths’ notice to terminate his appointment; and that the Board be asked to receive a deputation from the committee upon the matter.”—Carried, Mr Connoly dissenting.—The chairman and Mr Stewart were appointed to interview the Board. —Resolved :—“ That the master be informed that all correspondence re newspaper reading'is being sent to the Board, and that he will be at liberty to appear in self-defence.” Two small accounts were passed for payment. Messrs Deßenzy, Stewart, and Philp, were appointed visitors for the ensuing mouth.
