Wellington, June 28. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, The Council met at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday. adjournment. Shortly after meeting the Council adjourned as a mark of respect to the - memory of the deaths of Sir F. Whitaker, Mr Fulton, and Mr Martin, all of whom died since the prorogation of Parliament last year. Members referred in eulogistic terms to the late members. HOUSE OP REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2,30 p.m. on Wednesday. REPLY TO QUESTION. Replying to Dr Newman, Mr Seddou said that Government. would introduce a Bill to clear off the remainder of the naval and military settlers’ claims. They intended to do away with the land grant system and issue debentures exchangeable for land, bearing interest at 4 per cent. SIR HARRY ATKINSON’S DEATH. The Speaker at this stage (3.10 p.m.) announced that he had just received the painful news of Sir Harry Atkinson’s death in the other Chamber. The Premier rose and moved the immediate adjournment of the House till next day. He said that he felt sure the painful news just received would be heard with regret by every member of the House. Mr Rolleston seconded the motion without remark. The House rose at 3.12 p.m.
