IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.

London, June 14. Mr Balfour announced in the House of Commons that the Government would proceed with the Small Holding* Bill, and the Scotch Education, Clergy Discipline, and Irish Free Education, Bills. He hoped they would be able to dissolve by June 25th. Tho Irish members etrenuosly oppose the lastnamed measure.

Lord Salisbury informed the House of Lords that a telegram had been received from Williams, at the Victoria Nyanza, dated March 31st, stating that fighting was at an end and the missionaries were safe. The Premier appealed to the public to suspend their verdict on the action of the English officers in Uganda until the reports were received. He was unable to believe that Lugard and Williams had committed tho acts of violence alleged, but an enquiry would be held in due course.

Lord Salisbury said that he believed the East African Company would withdraw only partially from Uganda. In his opinion the best hope of holding the territory lay in the construction of a railway, and he hoped that the new Parliament would sanction the construction of a railway from the coast to Uganda.
