WAIMATAITAI PUBLIC SCHOOL V. TEMUKA D.H.S.
This match resulted in a decisive win for Waimataitai, by 20 points to 2. As in the match with the Tim- rn Main School, the local boys were quite outweighted by their visitors, but their play was quite as plucky as before, although t.'iey lacked the combination of their opponents, whose passing was very good. The following scored for Waimataitai : Bell, Guthrie, Parker, Wood, and Fox. The Tomuka try was gained by Gore, by a smart piece of work behind the scrum. Edwards essayed the kick, which was at a difficult angle, and made a really good attempt, although it did not succeed. For good individual play we may mention Livery, Gore (backs), and Mehrteua (forward) for the losers, and for the winners Hassall, Gouch (backs), and Cuthbert (forward), although evory boy played a good game. Mr Gillespie’s decisions as referee gave every satisfaction. After the match a move was made to the school, whore some of the lady teachers had prepared afternoon tea for the boys, t y the evident satisfaction of all. Hearty cheers were exchanged, the ladies present, of course, receiving an ovation from both teams.
