The Geraldine Racing Club's Autumn Meeting on Thursdaj l - was held under very favorable circumstances, the weather being unusually fine and the attendance all that could be expected. The grand stand and reserve appeared to be weil patronised by the fair sex, which is attributable to the club having departed from their usual course by admitting ladies free of charge to that part of the grounds. The grand stand booth and luncheon privileges were held by Mr J. Farrell, and were well favored. The fields were exceptionally large, and, with one or two exceptions, were got off well, Mr B. R. Macdonald acting as starter in place of Mr Meikle, who was unable to be present. The judge, clerk of scales, clerk of course, handicapper, and the secretary (Mr F. Wilson Smith), by their energy, contributed largely to the success of the meeting. The totalisator was under the charge of Messrs Mason & Roberts, and the total amount put through during the day was £1047. The dividends in two instances were astounding. In the Welter Handicap Mr W. Grice, an Ashburton farmer, owner of Sebastopool, "struck oil." He happened to be the only person with a ticket on the winner, and came out £139 3s to the good. Again in the Hack Selling Race there were only five tickets taken on the winner, and a dividend of £24 4s was declared. Strange to say, our sporting tipster, " Nemo," besides picking the winner of the Trot and two seconds, tipped Sebastopool for the Welter Handicap. On the whole everything was conducted satisfactorily, only one protest being lodged, and that a trivial one. A start was made at half-an-hour after the appointed time, and the la3t race finished shortly after five o'clock. The following are the results : Orari Handicap, of 20 sovs.; 6 furlongs' District race, at welter weights.
