AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. Messrs Guinness and LeCren rer-O.t for the month ended Saturday, yoth April, 1892, as follows : Sheep—We have again to report large entrie3 at the variouß fixtures. The attendance also has been good. All young sheep with fair mouths meet with ready sale at prices more remunerative to the sellers than the purchasers, we fear. Cattle—There is a steady demand for beef. Stores of all classes, especially well grown steers and heifers in forward condition suitable for fattening, are in request, and meet with a ready sale at prices in favor of vendors. Pleasant Point—On the 4th ult., again a large entry came forwaTd, and a very satisfactory sale. We yarded 3929 sheep of all sorta, and 10 head cattle, and sold every line at the following prices:—3l fat crossbred ewes at 10s, 90 crossbred hoggets at 9s Gd, 87 merino wethers at 6s, 1000 merino ewes at 4s sd, 113 old halfbred ewe 3 at 7s Id, 226 crossbred ewes at 12s, 149 do 6 and 8-tooth ewes at 12s Id, 128 crossbred hoggets at 8s 9d, 200 small halfbred do at 8s Id, 50 merino ewes at 3s 6d, 615 do wethers at 43, 50 crossbred ewes at 8s 9d, 352 halfbred do at 8s 6d, 88 crossbred hoggets at 9s, 715 merino wethers at 6s 3d, 4 pigs at 13s, and 10 head of fat and store cattle at £3 15. i to £5 per head. Temuka Yards—On the the sth and 19th ulf., a full yarding of sheep, cattle, and pigs, and a fair clearance effected. We sold the following lots : —3O fat crossbred ewes at 13s 7d, 60 crossbred hoggets (culls) at ss, 342 do do at 83 7d, 102 merino ewes at 3s Bd, 46 English Leicester rams at 30s, 264 halfbred 2-tooth ewes at 12s 9d, 212 three- quarterbred ewes at 13s, 46 crossbred ewes (culls) l at 6s 3d, 88 halfbred ewes at 13s, 95 fat halfbred ewes (small) at 10s 3d, 210 halfbred hoggets at 10s sd, 30 fat halfbred ewes at 10s 3d, 2 2-tooth English Leicester rams at £3 3s, 69 old rams from 30s to 40s, 10 pigs at 10s, 11 do at Bs, 6 head fat cattle from £4 to £5 2s 6d, and 60 head store cattle at from £2 10s up to £4 ss. Gei'alcQne Yards—Very large entries have been received at this fixture. Every line yarded by us on the 13th and 27th ult., were quitted at satisfactory prices as follows :—l5B merino ewes at 4s 7d, 20 fat do do at 7s Id, 28 fat halfbred do at 10s 7d, 100 crossbred do at 8s sd, 177 do do at 8s 6d, 360 halfbred do at 9s 6d, 118 crossbred do at 9s, 185 fat merino do at 7s Bd, 80 crossbred do at 9s 6d, 132 do do at 9s, 92 do hoggets at 7s 9d, 79 do do at 9s 6d, 200 merino ewes at 5s 2d, 112 do do at ss, 100 2-tooth crossbreds at lis 2d, 62 halfbred hoggets at 8s 9d, 121 do do at 9s 6d, 21 rams from 1J guineas to 3 guineas, 6 pigs, and 6 head cattle. Private Sales —ln this department business has been brisk. During the past month we have sold 9299 sheep, the bulk being crossbreds of all sorts, also 2000 lambs through the local freezing works, and 40 head of store cattle. The prices for all the above have been most satisfactory to vendors. Sheepskins, Wool, Hides, and Fat—Ey auction and privately we have disposed of 4924 skins, 12 bales, and 7 bags wool. Values are a shade-better. The following are the price 3 realised: —Best crossbred skins 2s 6d to 2s lOd, second do 2s to 2s 3d, merinos Is 9d to 2s 2d, country lines according to size and condition. Wool— Trimmings 3d to 4|d, dead wool sfd to 6|d, pieces 4jd, locks 2d. Hides—Prices remain the same; we have sold 150 at late quotations. We have quitted 1§ tons fat at the following rates: —lis 6d to 12s 6d for medium, up to 14s for extra good, per cwt. Land—We have several enquiries for handy-sized farms for leasing and purchase. Although there are plenty offering it is difficult to obtain suitable properties for the class of buyers in the market. We have to report the sale of Mr William Oldfield's farm, of about 200 acres, to Mr .John Fitzgerald, at a satisfactory figure"; and, in conjunction with the New Zealand Loan, and Mercantile Agency Co., the Riverslea Estate by auction on the 26th ult., of which a detailed report has already appeared. The cale realised about £35,000 AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, May 6. The President of the Chamber of Commerce, in his annual report, states that the year just past has been t\e most dkcouraging since the establishment of the Chamber. He mentioned that in the middle of Marph over twenty institutions had suspended, with a capital exceeding £4,000,000, which was locked up, and £11,000,000 of public deposits were rendered unavailable. The whole trouble was due to the unhealthy and altogether unprecedented expansion of credit. Adelaide, May 6. A proclamation has been issued prohibiting the importation of New Zealand sheepskins for two years, owing to the colony not being declared free of scab. ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MARKETS, London, May 6. New Zealand stocks are steadily improving, 4 per cent, inscribed stock is at 104 ; 3£ do., 95£. New Zealand long-berried wheat, 38s 6d, steady. Hemp, .fair quality, averages £3l, but there is no demand for the article. Wellington mutton, 4jd; Canterbury lamb, 5f d. New Zealand butter, best factory-made, 94s to 104 s. The season is closed. South Australian wheat, 39s 6d, firm; Victorian, 395. Forward business in Australasian cargoes, is inactive. Fore'gn arrivals are moderate. There are no Australasian cargoes off coast, or at ports of call. May 7. Colonial stocks are very firm, price 3 are advancing, and there is a better feelling all rouud. Experts declare that some New Zealand cheese ex Morayshire was robbed of cream, and fat substituted. Great complaints are made at the practice, which is calculated to exclude the article from the market. St. Petersburg, May 8. The free export of cereals from London is imminent.
