CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington yards on Wednesday there was a fair entry of stock. Store Sheep—Young crossbreds sold freely, two-tootha bringing 13s 10d. A line of aged crossbred wethers* which arrived from the Chatham Islands on the previous day brought 11s 3d to 11s 4d, and a quantity of aged crossbred ewes brought 8s 7d. Crossbred lambs were still in active demand at from 8s 4d to 9s Bd, but one small weedy lot brought only 6s 4d. Merino ewes sold at ss, and some of the wethers offered brought 8s lOd, the remainder being passed. Fat Sheep—A small yarding. Prices remained very firm at last week’s quotations, and in the case of the heaviest sheep values hardened somewhat. Best crossbred wethers and maiden ewes weighing from 681 b to 78lb realised from 16s to 18s Bd, returning a net price of 2fd per lb, while lighter sorts averaged 2jd per lb net. Wethers and maiden ewes from 15s to 17s. Fat Cattle—A limited entry. The few that could lay claim to being good sold freely at from £4 17s 6d to £6 10s for steers, and at from £4 2s 6d to £6 5s for heifers, equal to 20s per 1001 b. Cow beef sold freely at from 18s to 19s per 1001 b. Store Cattle, &c.—A small entry of store cattle met with a willing market, the few head of young stock offered being snapped up readily, two-year-olds going at from £2 10s to £2 15s, while small three-year-old heifers realised £3 ss. A good demand existed for dairy cows and springers, some of which sold up to £9. Pigs—Anything of reasonable sized bacon pigs sold freely at an advance of from 3s to 5s per head on former prices, 3d per lb being the price paid. Porkers were scarce, and commanded 3£d, and in some cases 3fd per lb. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat has good inquiry. Prime milling at from 4s to 4s 2d; medium, 3s 8d to 4s, good demand; fowls’ wheat, good whole, 3s to 3s 3d; medium and broken, 2s to 2s 9d. Barley is in fair demand if good bright. Malting at from 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; medium, 2s 8d to 3s; milling wanted at from 2s 3d to 2s 6d ; feed, 2s to 2s 3d. Oats are now coming fairly on the market, Prime milling, Is 6d; good to medium feed, Is 5d to Is sid ; inferior, Is to Is 4d; all sacks extra, off trucks. Prime "Nelson hops, Is, Linseed—£ll to £l3 (wanted). Potatoes —Prime derwents are worth up to 40s; medium, 27s 6d to 32s 6d. Market fully supplied. Carrots —30s per ton, sacks extra. Sheepskins—At auction on Tuesday country dry crossbreds, inferior to , medium, Is lid to 3s lOd; do do merino, Is 9d to 2s lid; full-wool crossbreds, 4s 4d to 5s lid ; do do merino, 3s to 5s Gd ; dry pelts, 3d to Is 8d; best green crossbreds, 2s 9d to 3s ; prime lots, 3s 4d to 3s 9d; medium to good, 2s 2d to 2s 8d ; green merino (light), Is 5d to Is 8d; best, Is 9d to 2s Id ; lambskins, 2s 4d to 3s ; medium to good, Is lOd to 2s 3d. Hides—All lots to hand are readily placed at late rates, which are: For ordinary country lines, IJd to 2d ; extra heavy, 2Jd to 2Jd, up to 3d being occasionally obtained for hides over 651 b and carefully flayed ; while inferior, light and slippy bring |d to I4d per lb. Tallow—All lots are worked off as they come to store at late rates. For best rendered mutton, 19s to 20s ; medium to good, 16s to 18s Gd; inferior to medium, 13s to 15s; best caul fat, 13s ; inferior to medium and good, 9s to 12s per cwt. DUNEDIN STOCK MABKETS. At the Burnside Market on Wednesday the following business was transacted:— Fat Cattle—2s7 head yarded, chiefly prime beef. The supply, however, proved too great for requirements, resulting in a decline of from 10s to 15s on last week’s values. Best bullocks brought £6 15s to £8 10s; medium to good, £5 10s to £6 2s Gd. Fat Sheep—lsoo yarded, about equal numbers of merino and crossbreds. A slight advance in prices was noticeable. Best crossbred wethers brought 14s to 15s 9d; two pens extra prime wether and maiden ewes reaching 16s 9d to 17s 9d; ordinary, 13s to 13s 9d ; best ewes, 13s 9d to 15s ; ordinary do, 10s to 13s; merino wethers, 6s 9d to 10s 6d. Fat Lambs—26l were penned, the major portion being fair quality. Medium to good brought 9s to 11s 9d, others 6s 9d to 8s 9d. Pigs—l 97 were submitted. The demand for most lines was fairly good, stores being the chief exception. Suckers brought 7s to 11s, slips 12s Gd to 15s, stores 16s Gd to 19s, porkers 26s to 28s Gd, baconers 36s to 425. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, April 27. Wheat, chick, 3s 9d; milling, Is 8d to Is lOd. Oats, feeding, 2s 2d to 2s sd; seed, 2s Gd to 2s Bd. Maize, 2s 7d. Peas, Prussian Blues, 3s 6d. Bran and pollard, scarce at Is. Potatoes, £2 15s to £3; Circular Heads, £3 10s. Butter, dairymade, Is Id ; factory-made Is 3d. Cheese, 4d to 6d. Bacon, Gd to 7d. Hams, New Zealand, 10^d. Melbourne, April 27. There is an improved demand for wheat, which is quoted at 4s. Flour, stone-made, £9 ss, roller-made, £9 2s Gd to LlO. Oats, stout, 2s 2 id. Adelaide, April 27. Wheat, 4s 2d. Flour, stone-made, L 9 to L 9 10s; roller-made, L 9 15s to LlO 2s Gd. Oats, prime New Zealand, 3s 3d to 3s 4d, Barley, Cape, 3s Gd to 3s 9d; malting, 4s 6d. Bran, Is d,; pollarls Id. ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MARKETS. London, April 28. At the wool sales inferior to average quality of greasy merinos are we.aker. The present series close on 23rd May, Gisborne Harbor stock has sustained a further fall of £3. April 29. New Zealand four per cent, inscribed stock is at 102£ ; 3J per cent. do. 94£. New Zealand long berried wheat, 38s Gd, weaker. Canterbury mutton, 45s 9d ; beef, hind-quarters, 4d. Hemp is depressed, and no New Zealand shipments have been offered for sale of late. Colonial oats, fine quality, 275; common, 255. South Australian wheat, 39s Gd, steady; Victorian, 395, active. For Australian wheat on passage sellers are asking 395, but buyers refuse to give more than 365. Wool is unchanged. The third series is limited to 425,000 bales. The quantity for the fourth series, which begins on 13th ! September, is unlimited. The date of the fifth series is not yet fixed, but the list closes on November 22nd. April 30. The apples ex s.s. Duke of Westminster are selling at from Gs to 11s per case. Auckland evaporated apples are selling at from 36s to 40s per cwt. Best American, from 32s to 36s per cwt. The wool market is rather weak.
