Geraldine— Friday, April 29th, FBefore Messrs R. H. Pearpoint, and H. W. L Moore J.Ps.] ASSAULT, William Hall, fishmonger, was charge 1 with violently assaulting Lizzie Ha l, on April 27 by striking her over the head with a horse shoe. . , , , Elizabeth Hall, wife of accused, deposed that her husband came home m a violent temper on Thursday night, and struck her on tne left temple with a horse shoe. He had assaulted her before on other occasion,-!, but had never been before a magistrate be Constable Willoughby said he was called at 6 o’clock on Thursday evening to see a man who had assaulted his wile the latter 'E-m danger. He took Dr Craig with him and found the woman smothered with blood, a cut being on her left temple and cuts on her hands. She appeared very violent, and said «be wanted to get at her husband and “ smash him.” Sde said shc would smash him the (constable) if he would not let her strike her husband William Hall, accused, said he went home on Thursday evening and his wite wiu Kcrubbinf. He asked her what right she had to be°scrubbing then, and she said it was her own busines. She then got up and smashed the windows and in Hie heat of battle he (the accused) might have struck her with the horse shoe' he could not say. The Bench remanded accused so as to fntmire further into bis character, Ban was allowed in two sureties of £o each and self in £lO. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Elizabeth Hall was charged with using obscene language in a public place. Accused was convicted and discharged.
