ANNUAL HOUSEHOLDERS MEETING.
The annual meeting of householders for the election of School Committees in the various school districts took place last Monday evening. RANGITATA STATION SCHOOL. At a meeting of the householders in the Rangitata Station School district the following gentlemen were elected as a committee for the ensuing year ;—Mea ns G. Winter (chairman), H. Coulter, E. Oonnall, and E. Kavanagh. The following is the report of last year’s proceedings, as read by the chairman, Mr Winter, and signed by Messrs Winter, Coulter, and Gynes :—“ We, the school commissioners of the Rangitata Station 1 School, beg to submit to the householders of the district our annual report of the school. During the year we have gathered by subscription and the concert and tea the sum of £lO Is, which with the balance (£5 9s sd) at the end of last year makes a total of £ls 10s sd, which money we have had at our disposal. Of this money we have spent £lO 4s 9d, and have a balance in hand of £5 5s Bd. When audited by the secretary of the Education Board the balance of the incidental account stood at £4 7s 2s. During our term of office, which started June 27th, 1891, we have held seven meetings. At Christmas-time our annual school treat took place, and passed off satisfactorily. The prizes have also been distributed to the children, as usual. We are also pleased to state that the school building will be repainted during the course of the next week or two. In closing our term of office we are pleased to state the school-work i appears to be going ahead very smoothly, the last examination being the best the school has had since it was started.” RANGITATA SOUTH. A meeting of householders was held in the Rangitata South Schoolroom on Monday evening last. On the motion of Mr T. Cadwallader, seconded by H. Waller, Mr Duncan Taylor was elected to the chair. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The former showed that the school roll had increased during the year from 23 to 38, that the work was going on satisfactorily at the school, and the buildings, fences and grounds were in good order ; the latter showed a credit balance in the bank of £3 7s 9d. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr D. Taylor (chairman), and to the retiring Commissioners, and also to the teacher for so efficiently working up she school during the year. The election of new Committee was then proceeded with and resulted in the election of the following members : D. Taylor, T. Cadwallader, H. Waller and C. Booker. A vote of thanks closed a very orderly meeting. At a subsequent meeting of the Committee, Mr D. Taylor was re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year, and a little routine business transacted. ORARI BRIDGE. At the annual meeting of householders Mr Wm. Hewson was chosen chairman. The report of the retiring committee showed . that they had worked very amicably j together; and the inspector’s report that i the school had done very well at last ! examination, the percentage of passes in | class subjects being 71, and in pass subjects 87. Messrs W. Hewson, G. Helena, A. I McLean, D. McDonald, J. Wharton, i Wm. Palmer, and M. Lawlor, were elected I to form the new committee, of which Mr j Hewson was chosen chairman. It was i agreed that the committee meetings shonld be held bi-monthly. WOODBURY. There ras a very small attendance of household's at the Woodbury Schoolroom on Monday evening, and no one being nominated the election of a new committee did not take place. The Education Board will now have to appoint a committee. HILTON. There was a fair attendance. Mr R, Skinner was voted to the chair, and read the report and balance-sheet, which wore adopted, and the election of a new committee was then proceeded with. Messrs J. Kelland, William Beattie, Robert Skinner, O, G. Bradley, Andrew Archibald, Patrick Ryan, and John Leary were elected. A meeting of the newlyelected Committee was held, and Mr 11. Skinner was elected chairman. The balance-sheet showed the receipts, including a bank balance from 1891 amounted to £49 0s 2d, made up of; Grants for incidental, £ls lOd, special grant for washhouse, £U 19s 6d, books sold to pupils £IQ 17s, and rent of school £2 15s, The, expenditure was ; cleaning school £lO, fuel £5 2s, books £8 Bs7d, washhouse £l3 6s, trimming fences and insurance £2 16s Bd, leaving a credit balance of £9 6s Hd, PLEASANT VALLEY. At Pleasant Valley Messrs Brophy, Bull, J, Gregan, D. Gregan, J. Guilford, Lysaght, and Wallace, were elected a committee for the ensuing year. At a meeting of the committee Mr Brophy was reelected chairman. BELPI.ELD, Messrs Alex. Morrison, Brown, Wm. Ford, Joseuh Quantock, John Sugrue, John Hanseq, and Geo. Palmer, junr., were elected a committee for the ensuing year. At a meeting of the committee Mr Ford was elected chairman.
