St. John's Ambulance Association.— At the seventh annual meeting of the Christchurch centre of the St. John Ambulance, the balance-sheet showed £29 in hand. The annual subscribers number 130 against 114 last year. Since the formation of the centre 285 men, and 442 women have obtained certificates ; 218 women have completed a course of nursing instruction, and 182 of them have obtained certificates. Bankruptcy Act.—At a meeting of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce it was decided to submit the following suggested clause in the Bankruptcy Act to other chambers :—An order of discharge shall not release a bankrupt from any debt incurred for food, groceries, fuel, clothing, or medicine, supplied by retail within three months prior to the order of adjudication, notwithstanding that any creditor may have 23roved in respect of such debt and have received dividends on it.
