LABOUR.
London, April IS, The society of engineers announce that the expenses for the quarter exceeded the income by £37,000. Those engaged in the cotton trade have agreed to a conference with the employers, but in the event of its not resulting satisfactorily 52,000 people will be thrown out of work. The Chronicle asserts that since the Durham miners went on strike £ i ,250,000 was lost hi wages. Sir George Elliot accuses some of the mine owners with malicious opposition, but it is expected that in order tp preserve the mines some of those who di4 not propose a reduction will resume work.
