The annual report was as follows : " Iu handing you the report for the past year we can only say that there was no falling off of entries, there being the same number as in 1890. There was a iiiference in some classes, viz., a falling off in cattle and agricultural produce principally. The annual horse parade was not such a success as last year in point of numbers, there being only 20 entries, and, having to remove to a paddock further out of town, the takings .it the gate were not so good. Sheep— All classes of merino, long wool and fat dieep were well represented, there being an excess of 23 entries over the previous year, with very fair competition, notwithstanding the absence of our .North •Jtago friends, Avho did not exhibit this year. Cattle—Only 12 exhibits in all classes were shown, Mr A. M. Clark's •:lerefords, and a few Ayrshires. Draught Horses were well represented and good •;.»mpefcition-a very fair lot, taking them all .•ound. The champion prize was won by the locally-bred and owned horse Bonny Breast Knot, and most points by Mr James Austin, Terauka. Other horses were well represented, and made a very creditable show. The extra class in the ivicks was a great success; but the thoroughbred classes will need alteration before they give satisfaction. The jumping, as usual, being a great feature, was a great success. Pigs—These classes were well represented by Messrs Rowo and Wills, beating most all local exhibitors, They both have splendid stock. Dairy produce was only fairly well represented, exhibitors at previous shows s.iying they had not sufficient feedto get a :'ood supply of butter; but what there was was of first rate quality. Agricultural produce. —The exhibits in this class were not so good in number as lasi year, but were quite up to the standard in quality. Implements were well represented with ■)'3 exhibits, including two Bosqd and manure drills (by Messrs Reid and Gray :uid P, ?wd D. Duncan) to compete for ;,he Association's and the Canterbury farmers' 00-opewitiVQ Association's prize. During the yeai- til© committee moved in the matter of forming a South Canterbury Farmers' Protection Association, Circulars were sent to all formers owning QVW 50 acres of land, inviting them to aubsaribjj, jn response to which only 57 replied; and the day after the Show, a meeting that had been, called by advertisement, was held to consider the position. Only eight or nine gentlemen attended and discussed the matter, which reunited in a resolution being passed—" That Basing th§ small amount of support awarded by the stockowners of South Canterbury to the wopc-aed association for their mutual it is desirable that no further efforts be niiule t.o collect funds."— Carried. The secretary VA3 instructed to return all subscriptions received, The show was on this occasion honoured by the presence of His Excellency the Governor and the Premier, who were entertained a* Jqncheon by the committee. Financially, #.o think the show may be looked upon as a success. Expenses were heavy owing to expandi- j ture in roofing and painting, levelling i iloor, and other improvements to the ; luncheon booth, amounting to £5410s 8d; j which; will appear in the assets; and; •in expenditure of £ll 9s 3d on account j ,>f the proposed South Canterbury j Farm<sx"'# Protection Association which will not *MiiV again. Also, judges' accounts are in excess of about £'l4 over last year. .4,1/ classes, with very few exceptions, were fr/lly represented, so that full prizes were' paid. I The committee desire to convey their thanks to the public generally of Timaru 1 and the surrounding districts for tbeir liberal support and attendance uf; the show, and to those gentlemen wi*o .so liberally came forward with private prizes and donations, viz : His Excellency Lord Onslow, New Zealand Insurance, New Zealand Shipping, and the National Mortgage &«d Agency Companies, Messrs A.E.G.'lihodes/M.H.R,, J- Ballantyne, J. King, G. and T, Young M, Ferguson G. H. Rhodes, F. Simmons, R.. Bfinyie, W. Waddell, and W. E. Warburton. The committee wish to record their thanks to those gentlemen who so ably acted as judgtsi? in the various classes; also the ground committee and class stewards, to Messrs Gracie and Maclean for selling privileges without charge, and. to Mr Jas. Granger, auditor." The balance sheet showed that gate jj receipts totalled £206 Ss 9d ; sale of booths J

Assets totalled £19510s sd, and outstanding liabilities were only £l6 133 4d. The report and balance-sheet were taken as read, and on the motion of Mr McLaren adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows :—President—Mr C. N. Orbell; vice-president—Mr James King. Both gentlemen thanked the meeting for electing them, and as in the past so in the future they would d© their best for the association. Treasurer—Mr W. Balfour ; secretary, Mr F. W. Stubbs. It will no doubt be remembered that at the October show a special prize was given for seed and manure drills. The time having now arrived for the drills to be tested, Mr McLaren moved, Mr Rhodes seconded, and it was carried—- " That the manufacturers of the drills exhibited at the show for the special prize offered by the Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association, in conjunction with this association, be informed that it is now desired to put these drills to the test of a public trial, and, if found to comply with the conditions under which the prize was offered, the prize to be awarded, but not otherwise." The new committee were handed the following recommendation by the outgoing committee: "That all sheep shown in the freezing class must be shown in the wool, whether given by private prize or the association, unless otherwise specified ; also that no acceptance for entry in any class of thoroughbred horses be received unless the secretary is satisfied that both the names of sire and dam are entered in the Stud Book."
