TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A special meeting of the above was held in the secretary's office last night,. Present —Messrs W. Storey, P. McCaskill, A. Rus-. sell, E. Brown, and J. Cooper. Mr Storey was voted to the chair. The secretary stated that the meeting was called to consider an application from Mr Farnie, the actinghead master,for a testimonial, he having now the opportunity of applying for an improved position. The question was duly considered, and members were unanimous in expressing their regret that there was a prospect of the school losing Mr Farnie's services. A letter was also I read from Mr Farnie dealing wifch general I school matters. Consideration of these was I deferred with the exception of a request made tibroughthc head-master by Mr John I McLeod, of Opihi, who desired fco have the privilege of giving his services to the school as an assistant teacher with

the view of a.quiring a knowledge of school discipline, etc. He had already qualified for a partial D certificate, but wished to obtain further experience before applying for a situation. On the motion of Mr Brown, seconded by Mr Russell, it was resolved to ask the Education Board to grant Mr McLeod's request. The action of Messrs Storey and Cooper, in sanctioning the closing of the school on one wet afternoon, was confirmed. The meeting then terminated.
