CONCERT

The concert In aid of Malcolm Geddes, which took place in the New Schoolroom, Temuka, last night, attracted a very fair attendance indeed. The Rev. T. A. Hamilton briefly addressed those present, thanking them for their attendance, and expressing his appreciation of their sympathy with the cause he was advocating. It had reached his ears that people had said that it was a cause that was not worthy of assistance, but he desired to be very plain upon the subject. When they found their medical men giving their time and skill in aid of suffering humanity without hope _of recompense, it was onlyrightthat Christian men and women should come forward and take their share of the burden, and extend to the unfortunate that assistance and sympathy that Christ did not deny to the meanest. With regard to the amount that would be realised that evening, he was personally responsible for its expenditure. The outlay would be little—the piano was kindly lent by Mr Scannell, and other minor expenses had been defrayed by friends. The sum netted would be devoted, first to defraying some nursing expenses, and the balance would be handed to two gentlemen to give in weekly sums to him for whose help they were there that evening. He desired to thank the performers for their services, and all who had assisted in any way. A very choice programme was then gone through, some particulars of which will appear subsequently. |
