AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Sydney, March 15, During the debate on the railway estimates Mr W. F. Skey, member for Redfern, accussed the Railway Commissioners of favouring the Proudfoots in the matter of railway contracts. The Commissioners asked the Government to hold an inquiry, but the latter declined on the ground that they did not attach any importance to the charge. The Proudfoots have issued a writ against Mr Skey, claiming £IO,OOO damages, Mr Eddy, Chief Commissioners of Railways, has replied to the Government, insisting on an inquiry into the truth of the charges made by the member for Redfern. It is possible that the refusal of the Cabinet to accede to the request will cause the resignation of the Commissioners. In consequence of the reduction in the immigration vote the Premier has cabled to the Agent-General instructions to stop all emigration to the colony. Melbourne, March 15. The Cabinet have not suspended the Railway Commissioners, as threatened, but directed the Minister of Railways to proceed with his investigations. Adeliade, March 14, The Commission appointed to enquire into the causes and prevention of red rust in wheat have finished their work. They recommend the early sowing of wheat, harvesting rust-infested crops in an early stage, and growing of wheat after crops of different order, agreeably to the true principles of rotation. The Commission also proposed the establishment of central stations in each colony to test new wheats introduced into the country. Hobart, March 14.
