GERALDINE TOWN BOARD. "OTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that _ , at a Special Meeting of the Geraldine Town Board, held on the First Day of March, 1892, a resolution was adopted that the By-laws numbered 1 to 52, the objects or purport whereof is hereunder stated, and a copy whereof is deposited at the Office of Messrs Smithson, Raymond, & Smith, Solicitors, Geraldine, and is open for inspection by the public during office hours, should be the By-laws of the Geraldine Town Board, and should come into force within the Geraldine Town District on the 14th day of April, 1892 ; and notice is further given that a SPECIAL MEETING of the said Board will be held at the Office of the said Board on TUESDAY, the sth day of April, 1892, at 7.30 p.m., to CONFIRM THE SAID RESOLUTION. Dated the 9th day of March, 1892. C. E. SHERRATT, Clerk to the said Board. THE OBJECTS OR PURPORT OF THE ABOVE - MENTIONED { BY-LAWS. 1. To regulate the construction of verandahs and porticos over public footpaths in the said district. 2. To provide for the proper construction and maintenance of gutters, spouts, and drains, to , prevent water falling upon streets or footpaths in the said district, and to provide for the proper construction of crossings over side-channels, and footpaths. 3. To regulate the construction of drains under footways within the said district. 4. To prevent the discharge of offensive matter into any public place in the said District. 5. To regulate the deposit or erection and to compel the removal of scaffolding, building materials, rubbish, or obstructions in any street or footway in the said District. 6. To prevent injury to any street in the said District by drawing timber or heavy materials thereon. 7. To prevent encroachment of buildings and fences upon streets in the said District and to provide for the removal of such encroachments by or at the expense of the owner or occupier. 8. To prevent horses and cattle being tethered or wandering in streets in the said District. 9. To prevent the breaking in of horses in streets and public places in the said District. 10. To authorise the seizure and destruction or sale of unregistered dogs found in any street in the said District. 11. To prevent animals, vehicles, or bicycles being ridden or driven on footways, gutters, or waterchannels in the said District except at crossings thereto. 12. To provide for all buildings being erected within the said District subject to the control of the said Board and in accordance with plans approved by it. 13. To regulate the constructing as to dimensions and materials of the walls of buildings in the said District. 14. To provide for roofs within the said District being of non-combustible materials. 15. To provide for chimneys within the said district being of brick, stone, or concrete. 1 16. To prohibit the erection of tents or temporary structures within the said District without the consent of the said [ Board. 17. To limit a time after which it shall not be, lawful to use or suffer to remain any building, roof, fireplace, furnace, or chimney of such construction or description, or within such distance from another building as to be contrary to any By-law made subsequently to its erection. 18. To provide for and regulate the erec- ■ tionof privies, water-closets, earth-closets, and receptacles for refuse within the said District, for the inspection thereof, and the suppression of any nuisances therein. 19. To prohibit the erection of privies and cesspools within 10 yards of any dwellinghouse within the said District, and to compel the removal of any so placed. 20. • To prevent the pollution of any river, stream, or water-course within the said District, so as to cause it to become a nuisance. 21. To prohibit bathing within view of streets and public places in the .said District without proper attire. 22. To prevent the slaughter of cattle or sheep on unlicensed premises in the said District. 23. To prevent defacement of buildings, houses, walls, fences, lamp posts, and gates in the said District by placards, etc. 29. To prevent defacement of houses, buildings, walls, fences, gates, or places in the said District by obscene or profane language being, placarded thereon. 30. To prevent offensive smells arising from dead animals within the said District. 31. To provide for the proper burial of dead animals in the said District. 32. To prevent the discharge of catapults in the said District and the improper discharge of fireworks therein. 33. To prevent the making of cellar doors or openings from the streets in the said District without consent of the said Board. 34. To prevent drains or sewers in the said District being unlawfully opened or the surface of streets therein being removed. 35.
