TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Temuka Town Board was held last night. Present— Messrs J. Blyth (chairman), P. Ooira, S. Clinch, W. Storey, and E. Pilbrow. CORRESPONDENCE The only correspondence read was From an anonymous correspondent, who drew attention to the fact that a pig was kept on a section on the Main South road.—The pig had been removed. BUILDING REGULATIONS. The chairman reported that the board had inspected the premises now being erected for Mr James Harrison, in respect of the application made by Mr E. Cutten on behalf of Mendelson’s trustees for permission to erect a verandah. One verandah post would come near the fire brigade well, and it was resolved that the permission be granted, subject to the fire brigade and town board not being held responsible for any damage done to the verandah if the brigade should have occasion to use the well if a fire broke out. overseer’s report. The overseer’s report was to the following effect: Little progress had been made with the asphalting from Nicholas’s stables to Mr Clark’s. During the wet weather he had observed that obstructions were caused to water-tables by traps being driven over them. He found the gratings in front of drains most serviceable, and recommended that more should be used. His instructions re dog registration had been carried out as far as possible. The date had now arrived for the re appointment or otherwise of the lamplighter, and nightsoil contractor. Rates had come in slowly, as would be seen by list furnished. Complaints were still made in respect of a nuisance arising from the back of some premises in the main steet, the drainage from which was taken to the water-table near Mr Nicholas’s stables. LAMPLIGHTER, ETC. It was resolved, after brief discussion, that the lamplighter be re-appointed for the ensuing twelve months. It was also resolved that the nightsoil contractor’s appointment be re-affirmed. Both appointments to be at current rates. The overseer was authorised to procure drain gratings where required, and have j the same fixed. j RATES. ( After consideration of the rate account, twelve names were drawn by lot from the defaulters’ list, and the clerk was instated jto fake legal proceedings against the same to Lccpyer due.

Accounts to the amount of £32 19s 9d were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
