THE IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.

London, Feb. 25. The Shop Hours Bill introduced by Mr W. J. Lane, member for the Eastern Division of Cork, was thrown out. The principal support of the measure came from the ranks of the Tory party. Mr J. Henniker Heaton is urging Parliament to set up a Committee to inquire into the cost of the carriage of mails to the Australian colonies. He points out that under existing arrangements the railway companies receive half the money, Italy and France pocketing £60,000 per annum. Earl of Cadogan stated that the Government did not intend to depart from the safeguards contained in Mr Balfour’s Irish Local Government Bill.
