After thio u-nouncf niant Sir John Kali placed his papers in his desk, took up his hat, and without a ■word walked out of the chamber, being followed by several clerical and lay representatives. A few minutes afterwards the Bishop of Auckland moved for a suspension of the same standing Order, p Anting out that it would bo next to impossible to get through all the business on the Order Paper unless the Synod sat 1 .ter than half-past 10 o’clock to-night,

and it was doubtful whether there would be a quorum present to-morrow. The Bishop of Christchurch seconded the motion, but the Primate peremptorily ruled it out of order, as it had already been disposed of. He then called on the next business on the Order Paper. Sir John Hall, was present in his usual place in the chamber when the Synod resumed at 7.30. The other representatives who left with him had returned during the latter part of the afternoon " tting ’ Fob, 18. The Anglican Synod mot at 11 a.m. The report of a select committee on the financial position of the separate dioceses, showed the average stipend of the clergy in. each diocese as follows: —Auckland, £206; Waiapu, £243; Wellington, £229 ; Nelson, £208; Christchurch, £194; Dunedin, £194. The average contribution of church people per head, men, women, and children, in each diocese was : —Auckland, 3s 4d; Waiapu, 6s 8d; Wellington, 5s 2d; Nelson, 3s 7d; Christchurch, 4s 2d; Dunedin, 5s 3d. In reply to a question the Primate said the canons required the consecration of a missionary Bishop for Melanesia to take place in New Zealand. Archdeacon Harper’s Bill, affirming that no alteration be made in the Book of Common Prayes or the formularies except after due deliberation, was read a third time and passed. At this afternoon’s sitting ot the Svuod, the debate on the second reading of Sir John Hall’s Bill to give women the of voting at parish meetings, was resumed by the Bishop of Dunedin, who spoke in support of the measure, but moved as an amendment that it be remitted to the next General Synod for farther consideration. , ... The Bishop of Christchurch seconded the amendment, and spoke strongly in favor of the extension of the franchise to women He said that he entirely supported Sir John Hall’s scheme for woman suffrage. . , , , The amendment was carried almost unanimously o:a the voices. At the Synod to-mg'ht the proposed amendments in the Marriage Act were taken into consideration, and after a good deal of discussion were agreed to without material alteration. This exhausted the business on the Order Paper, and the s Vision was declared closed. Darin'' the afternoon another unpleasant 0 incident occurred. Mr Jas. Allan wished to ask the Primate a question in reference to his neglect to invito ; Biali .p of Dunedin to be present at oii ■ consecration of the Bishop-elect of Nelson, but was refused leave. He thereupon gave notice of the question. Darin the afternoon, however, the Bishops of Auckland, Christchurch, and Waiapu waited on the Primate, and he then explained that he had received a letter from tho Bishop of Duneaiii, stating that he would not take part m any service in the Wellington diocese Before receiving this he had intended inviting the Bishop of Dunedin, and had written his name on the mandate. He had not received a letter from the Bishop of Dunedin stating that his note did not include the consecration service. As such had been sent he would, of course, invite the Bishop to tho ceremony, i hi* settled the incident.
