THE IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.
London, Feb. 11. The amendment moved by Mr T. Sexton in the House of Commons, in connection with the failure of the Irish Land Purchase Act, further declares the inability of the Imperial Parliament to legislate for Ireland. The Opposition support the amendment The Parnellites will not elect a Chairman out of respect to the memory of their late leader. Feb. 12. In the House of Commons Mr Chamberlain, in a brilliant speech, attacked Mr Gladstone’s tactics, which he declared were full of menace and bluster. Sir James Fergusson, PostmasterGeneral, states that the charge for conveying Indian mails via Calais and Brindisi by special trains has been reduced by £7,300 per year. The Salonica route was feasible and perhaps quicker, but it was not probable at present it would be adopted. Sir W. Y. Harcourt declined to support an amendment to the Address in Reply, moved by Mr Redmond, for an amnesty to political prisoners. The amendment, which was negatived by a large majority, was supported by under forty of Mr Gladstone’s party.
