WINCHESTER.
An adjourned annual meeting of the Winchester Domain Board was held on February 4th. Members present were — Messrs J. A. Young (chairman), W. Deßenzy, and James Paterson. The chairman read the annual repo; t and balance sheet. The report was to the following effect: —“Gentlemen, —In bringing forward the annual report and balance sheet, we may congratulate ourselves in having carried out considerable improvements, especially in removing and making a good boundary fence, removing trees in the avenue, and planting shrubs in their place, and having a gate fixed to entrance of avenue. Suitable seats have also been provided for convenience of the public visiting park. A brass plate, suitably engraved, has been obtained, which, when fixed in stone, will be erected to com- \ meraorate the planting of an oak on the -lif'day of the Jubilee of Her Most Gracious Majesty, Queen Victoria. We should recommend, when funds are available, to fence in a portion of ground round the oak and lay out the same as an ornamental . ground, also that the avenue shall as early possible be got ready and laid down with suitable English grasses,” The balance-sheet showed the receipts to have been £49 Os 3d, including a bank balance of £2814s 3d from. 1891, and £l6 received ns rent for pasture. The expenditure was £42 16s sd, leaving a credit balance of £6 3s lOd. It included £7 3s for fences and hedges, £8 13s 5d for material, £ll 11s 2d for labor, £6 4s for seats, £3 10s for purchase of trees and planting, £2 13s for gates, and £llss for painting. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr J. A. Young, chairman, for his past services, and he was then reelected chairman for the ensuing year. The chairman was authorised to call for tenders for fencing in the domain, to be invited in Temuka Leader, not later than 14th inst. The meeting than adjourned. * 'The annual meeting of the Winchester ■(wicket and other Sports Domain Board T was held on February 4th, The annual report for year ending December 31st was read as follows “ Gentlemen,—There is little to report. A stile has been erected, and gap filled up at the school, as recommended. A few weeping willows have been planted judiciously and are doing well. The receipts have not been large, but just sufficient to carry on with. We should recommend, when funds will admit,
to extend the plantation round the ground. We would suggest that the Winchester Football and Cricket Clubs should assist in this work.” The receipts, including a balance of 10s 4d from last year, amounted to £6 18s lOd. The principal item was £4 8s 6d received for grazing. The expenditure amounted £4 7s sd, leaving a balance to credit of £1 11s sd. The principal items of expenditure were fences and hedges £llss, material £1 4s lid, and labor £1 4s 6d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. A vote of thanks was passed to the chairman, Mr J. A. Young, and he was re-elected chairman. The meeting then terminated.
