London, Jan. 3Q. Bidding at the wool auctions is keen, the attendance about an average. Prices are generally maintained at the of opening day, The total catalogued UP to date is 62,800 bales, of which 47,600 have been sold. Tallpw, medium, 26s ; beef, 24s 6d.: The English wheat market is depressed; the Continental dull; the American steady. Feb. 2. The London , and Westminster Bank has issued a Western Australian loan of £250,000 at 4 per cent., at a minimum of 99. Tenders close on Monday. At the wool sales prices are steady and remain unchanged. Wheat has declined 6d, Paris, Feb. 1. The new French tariff is expected to increase the imports of English goods. Sydney, Feb. 2. . The St. Joseph Society have issued a circular to depositors, suggesting suspehsion of payment for three months, and that the payment of large be extended to five years at yearly instalments. The directors state that the society is in a sound position, but that the assets are unrealisable, a statej of affairs brought about by the recent financial panic. , ~i( • .■ -
