RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT-
Temuka—Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, 1892. [Before C, A. Wray, Esq., R.M.] COWS AT LARGE. Martin Flaherty was charged with allowing a cow to wander at large in Denmark street, Arowhenua. Wm. Ackroyd ; Remembered the 23rd January. On that day saw Mr Flaherty’s cow with her head through witness’s fence. The cow was on the pathway of the main street. Knew the cow well. The street is a public thoroughfare. Could not impound it, so laid an information. Hugh Flannery, laborer, resident in Arowhenua: Knew Flaherty’s cow. It was among several that Ackroyd was driving to the common. The defendant said that on the day in question his cow was not near Ackroyd’s. His cow was turned out in charge of a little girl, who was to take it to the creek. —Fined 5s and costs, Robert Lavery was charged with a similar offence. The evidence was similar to that in the preceding —Fined Bs and costs. A similar charge against Amos Hope was dismissed. J. Mclnnes was charged with a like offence,-and pleaded “Not guilty.” W. Ackroyd and H. Flannery gave evidence. Defendant said he had no cow. His wife owned one, which was herded on open ground north of Denmark street.—The information was dismissed. John Hooper was fined 5s and costs for a like offence. CIVIL CASES. David Taylor v. J. Cope (native)— Claim £3 6s Bd. Judgment by default for amount claimed and costs.
