GERALDINE ST. PATRICK’S DAY, SPORTS ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of the above took place on Wednesday evening at the Crown Hotel, when the attendance was all that could be desired.
Mr R. H. Pearpoint (President), who occupied the chair, made a few introductory remarks relative to the association’s sports. past year, as far as wrestling was concerned, it had been increased considerably, but he was sorry to say that the entries for the big wrestling event did not come up to the committee’s anticipations. They had only three or four entries, some of which were got by their own exertions. He thought as during the year bicycle riding had so far gone ahead in the district in all probability it would be an important item in their programme. There had been a great deal of talk with reference to adding a number of items to the programme. They thought that not only dancing but bagpipe music should also be added. One or two country members had signified their willingness to go on the committee, and he would like to see as many as possible on it, as it would induce them to attend the association’s meetings, and assist them in getting fresh members. During the year it was thought desirable to get the three national flags. This had been carried into effect without any cost to the association, various' members of the different nations having taken upon themselves to get subscriptions towards them. They now had three very goqd flags, which, he had been told, were better tßan any in Timaru and better in two out of the three than in Toinuka, He had a very flattering balance sheet to put before them. They had £46 to their credit, and their onlv debt was 12s 6d. (Hear, heari. Of course it would beforthe incoming com mittee to say how the money should be devoted. He thought they could not do better than follow in the steps of the Tppiuka Caledonian Society in respect to the grounds, and erect a fence round the pavilion, By this means they could make money and also save the expense of posts and rope, which would have to be got so long as people were allowed within the oval.
