AUSTRALIAN CABLE.
Sydney, Jan. 22. Kerr, the Australian champion cyclist, has sailed for New Zealand, where he intends to compete at the champion athletic meeting at Christchurch, Jan. 23. Heavy rain is falling at Broken Hill. Advices have been received to the effect that the Hongkong police are pursuing Bell and Davis, who were reported from Honolulu to have sailed for the China Seas. The preliminary report of the Government statistician on the wheat harvest 19, , to the effect that it is generally speaking disappointing. The yield is estimated at 3,900,000 bushels, giving an average of 12.12 bushels per acre. The crops almost everywhere are reported to be patchy, but the quality generally is good. Prices range from 3s 9d to 4s 7d, but the average obtained by the fanners is 4s 2d delivered. It is estimate- 1 that the colony will have to impor 3,750,000 to 4,000,000 bushels. Launceston, Jan. 25. The attendance at the Exhibition up to date is 125,000. There is at present a substantial credit balance.
