The Princess Mary is recovering from prostration and the effects of grief caused by the Prince’s death. It is now stated to be untrue that the Dublin Council refused to lower the flag at the Mansion House. The Courts of India have adjourned in consequence of the Duke’s
death. Jan. 18. The doctors have forbidden Her Majesty the Queen and Prince George, who has just recovered from typhoid fever, to attend the funeral of the late Duke of Clarence and Avondale. The Queen holds a memorial service
at Osborne. No Princess will attend the funeral. The family of the Prince of Wales and that of the Duke of Teck, attended services in Sandringham Church, where the body was removed. The coffin, which was covered with a silken Union Jack, was decorated by the Princess Mary with a floral harp, with broken strings. Wreaths t^
place on the coffin are arriving from all parts of Great Britain and the Continent, o ,v iers have been issued that GO minute guns shall be fired at naval stations abroad at the time of the
funeral, The Duke of Anhault and Count Seckendorff represent the Emperor of Germany and the Empress Frederick at the Duke’s funeral. The theatres are closing on Wednesday. The offices of the Agents-General will be closed to-morrow on account
of the Duke of Clarence’s funeral. The body of the deceased Prince has been viewed by large numbers of people. Sydney, Jan. IS. The Assembly to-flay passed an
address of jcoqdaleuce to the Queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales I on the death of the Duke of Clarence and Avondale. THE LATE CARDINAL MANNING. London, Jan. 13. The remains of the late Cardinal Manning are lying in state. The burial will take place on Thursday at Kensal Green. The Labour Unions have passed resolutions resetting the Cardinal’s death. 6
Monsignor Gilbert Virtue and Bishop Bagshawe, of Nottingham, are also mentioned as likely to succeed Cardinal Manning, INFLUENZA. London, Jan. IS. In the churches yesterday special prayers were offered for the abatement of influenza. Influenza continues severe both in Germany and Great Britain, and a thousand cases arereporiedin Croydon. It is also spreading in France. The Hon. Algernon Tollemache, formerly of Wellington, New Zealand and Mr Benjamin Scott F.R.A.S., Chamberlain of London, are dead. Both had suffered from influenza. The Press generally recommends the Government to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the best means of arresting the spread of influenza. Admiral Fairfax is suffering from Influenza. Viknna, Jan. 18. The death is announced of the ArchDuke Charles Salvator, brother of the Grand Duke of Tuscany. The death was caused by influenza.
