TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting •of the Temuka School Committee was held on Tuesday evening last. Present —Messrs Aspinall (chairman), Storey, Cooper, Brown, and Russell. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read— From Mr J. W. Velvin resigning hia position as a. member of the committee as he was leaving the district.—On the motion of Mr Russell, seconded by Mr McCaskill, the resignation was accepted with regret, and the chairman was instructed to convey to Mr Velvin the committee’s resolution. .From the Secretary of the Board of Education, stating that at the last meeting it was decided to authorise the Temuka Committee to get the work of repairing plaster and distempering, etc., carried out during the Christmas holidays, the outside work to stand over for a time. [The work is now being carried out]. From Miss Phillips, enclosing medical certificate to the effect that she was too ill to attend to her school duties for three days preceding the Christmas holidays.— Received.

PUPIL XEACHERSHIP. Three applications for the vacant pupil-teachership were received, and after consideration two were selected for recommendation to the board. Mr McCaskill retired from the meeting while the applications were being dealt with, JJOARD OF EDUCATION.

On the motion of Mr Cooper, seconded by Mr Brown, it was decided to recommend Messrs Goldsmith and Jackson (the retiring members) as members of the Board of Education, subject to their consent being obtained. THANKS. The secretary was instructed to write • to the Hon. Mr Rolloston conveying the thanks of the committee to him for distributing the prizes. The thanks of the committee were also passed to donors of prizes whose names have not been mentioned. VISITORS. Messrs Brown and McCaskill reported having visited the school, and Messrs McCaskill and Cooper were appointed visitors for the ensuing month.

ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £l4 4a 6d were passed for payment. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
