TIMARU WOOL SALES. The second sale of the season was held in Tirrmru on Tuesday. The following catalogues were submitted : Bales Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association ... ... ••• 740 N.Z. Competition was fairly active, more so than at the previou sale, and especially keen for all clean, light, and bright wools. Prices for crossbreds were about on a par with those ruling at last sale, while merinos were Jd per lb better. In halfbreds and crossbreds the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company scored top values of the day, viz., 9jd for 10 bales of the former, marked Strathallan, and 4 bales of the latter marked ch over A at B£d. With the exception of one of the catalogues, where the reserves were too high, and nearly half had to be passed, almost all the wool was quitted under the hammer, very few bales being bought in. The, following were ruling rates for the sale :—Halfbreds 7d to 9d, and 9J for one lot as above, three-quarter-bred 6£d to Bd, crossbred 5d to Bjd, merinos 5d to 7d, pieces, 2Jd to 7d, and 7fd for one nice light lot. Locks IJd to 4£d, scoured wools up to 12£d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, Jan. 19, Wheat, chick, 4s to 4s 3d ; milling, 4s lid to ss. Flour, stone-makes, £ll to £l2; roller brands, £l2 10s to £l3. Oats, 2s 4d to 2s 6d. Maize, 2s 2d to 2s sd. Barley, Cape, 3s. Peas, Prussian blue, 3s 6d. Bran, lOd to lOjd. Pollard, 7jd to lOd. Potatoes, local, £2 ss; Warrnambool, £3 15s. Onions, £3s 10s to £4. Butter, dairy, 8d; factory, 9d. Cheese, 3d to sd. Bacon, 6d to 7sd ; hams, New Zealand, lOd to lid. At the wool sales competition is very active. The samples are below the average. ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MARKETS London, Jan. 17. New Zealand four per cent, inscribed stock has risen J per cent. Tallow, medium mutton, 20s; beef, 24s 6d. The English wheat market is declining and shows signs of weakness. The American and Continental markets are also declining. Jan. 18.
Hew South Wales is offering a million and a quarter’s worth of Treasury bills for two years, at 4 per cent., with a minimum of 99 J. Gisborne Harbor Board stock has fallen £2 10s. Wheat has fallen 6d per quarter.
