CHRISTCHURCH ORAIN MARKET. 0 . Messrs H. Matson & Co. (associated with the National M. and A. Company of N.Z,-, Limited), report for the week ending January 18th, 1892, as follows : Wheat—Hardly any business is transpiring in this grain. The market has a downward tendency, and the new crop must come in at less money than was expected some time back. In the meantime merchants and millers are not operating, and business will not improve until the new grain is available. Present quotations are 4s to 4s 3d. Oats Cable advices received during the week report a slight drop in values and.a drooping marjept (the latter remark referring to both wheat and pat.s), This is ( likely to check prices ; in fact, an easier feeling is already noticeable. Values Is lOd to 2u, inferior Is 8d to Is 9d. Barley—There is nothing whatever doing. Grasss Seed—Ryegrass lias been offering very freely, and there is evidently a large quantity in the market. Values paid ans % 3d to 3s, according to samples, but merchants ape npt buying with freedom. Cocksfoot is b,ein# puf ? and the quality this year is likely to be good. Prices ai e not yet named. Peas—Blues are taken at up to 3s 6d, feed are dull at 2s 3d to 2s 6d, Beans 3s. Putter 7d per lb. Cheese 4d to sd. Quotations are f.0.b., sacks extra. ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MARKETS. London, Jan. 10. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 102 k ; do 3s, 93. New Zealand long-berried wheat, 445, quiet. Canterbury mutton, 4£d; beef, hind- , quarters, 4d. A thousand bales of New Zealand hemp were sold at tha following prices : —Good Auckland, £22 15s ; fair Wellington, £2O 10s. Factory-made butter by the Tongariro reali-ed 124 s per cwt. South Australian wheat, 455, ilnfc; Victorian do, 44s 3d. The Antwerp wool sales take place on the 21st and 2#nd insts. Up to date four thousand bales hayje bfien catalogued, of which number 350 bales a<?e Australian wool. .Jan. 1/j.
