Hobart, Jan. 11. Speaking at a meeting of the Science Association Sir Ferdinand Yon Mueller emphasised the importance of the proposed Antarctic expedition, and said that it was important that the colonies should seize the opportunity of replenishing their treasures by making use of the resources which the Antarctic regions opened up. Mr Napier Bell read a paper on “ Architecture and Engineering,” Professor Warren, in the course of a paper on the “ Drainage of Cities,” expressed the belief that the drainage of such towns as Sydney, Wellington, Dunedin, Auckland, and Hobart would be most conveniently and economically dealt with on the Shone system. THE MOROCCO DIFFICULTY, London, Jan. 11, It is rumoured that the British Minister at Tangiers desired to occupy the place by force with British sailors, but the French and Spanish protested. The Specator, referring to the position in Morocco, suggests that France should take Tangiers and Gibraltar revert to Spain, France at the same time agreeing not to molest England in Egypt and East Africa. The rebels are advancing on Tangiers.
