INVERCARGILL WOOL SALES. At the first of the season’s wool sales on Monday, about 5000 bales were offered to a good attendance of buyers, home manufacturers being represented as strongly as at last year’s sales. The sale on the whole was satisfactory from a growers’ point of view. There has been a considerable decline in values in London. Fine halfbreds brought as high prices as lijst year, some brands even more, due in some measure to their being lighter in grease. The top price for fine halfbred was lid, the average from 104 d to 9d. Fine crossbreds, 9d to lOd. Those of a rough description and sappy brought 7id to 9d. Merinos were in poor demand, and most of the lota passed were of this description. Light in grease and good staple brought Bd, other sorts 6d to 7id. ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MARKETS. London, Jan. 10, Tallow, medium mutton, 25s 9d, beef, 245. The English wheat market shows a general decline of Gd. The Continental and American markets are also declining. Hides, salted heavy, 3 3-16 d ; basils, 74d to Is Id. Australian leather, Bd. Jan. 11. Colonial butter is being reshipped to Scotland, where the average price obtained is similar to that realised in London, It is considered that if the Government brand butters, they ought to distinguisxi between factory-made and dairy-made. Wheat has declined a further Gd. New Zealand 5 per cents, have advanced 1 per cent.
