SUNDAY SCHOOL TREAT.
Although the weather appeared very unpropitious for picnicking on Thursday morning, it cleared up in the afternoon, in good time for the annual parish Sunday School treat in connection with the Church of England, Geraldine. The teachers and scholars assembled at the church at 2 p.m., and marched to the Volunteer Hall, where good things were in store for the children. After their young appetites had been satiated, they cleared pell-mell to the small park, where they were fully employed till five o’clock iu races and games. Messrs Hughes, J. Dean, and A. White conducted the races, and did their best to give Uie children a good day’s amusement. The bell was rung at four p.m. for tea, and the Volunteer Hall was again brought into use. A large number of ladies and gentlemen were present at the picnic, rounders being their chief amusement. The picnic, which lasted till dusk, was a good one in every respect, and the Rev. J. Preston, Mrs Preston, and the Misses Preston toiled hard to make it such. The following presided over the tables : Mesdarnes Winstone, Pye, Hawke, Pearpoiut, Dean, and Preston, assisted by several young ladies. The thanks of those interested are due to country and town people who gave subscriptions towards the treat; the country people especially, who gave handsomely. Mesdames Fish, White, Pearpoint, Hawke, and Preston, kindly sent milk butter and fruit in addition to their subscriptions, and Mesdarnes Macdonald and Bartruin, hams, fruit, etc. Mrs Dunlop and Mr J. W. Pye sent toys, and Messrs R. H. Pearpoint ami N. Dunlop and Co. presented lollies.
