TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above board was held on Tuesday last. Present —Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), J. Fraser, and C. Bisset. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From Mr Amos Hope, asking permission to cut cocksfoot on the Milford road. From Mr J, Paterson, asking for the right to cut cocksfoot on all roads between Temuka, Winchester, and the sea, and offering £5 for, the same.—Offer accepted if paid in advance. From Mr J. G. McNaughton, asking for a road from his farm to the Kakahn road.—Mr Archer to see Mr McNaughton upon the matter. Prom Mr VV. Page, offering the sum of £2 per annum for Reserve 819.—The overseer to see Mr Page upon the subject, other interests being involved. From Mr William Hawke, reminding the board that they have no crop upon the road near Mr Bissett’s, and stating that he intended to cut the crop growing thereon. He also asked that Mr Bisset be instructed to fill up the drain.—Mr Hawke to be informed that the drain referred to was cut with the board's permission, and see no reason to withdraw such permission, and must, therefore, decline to accede to the request concerning it. overseer’s report. The overseer’s report was read and dealt with as follows : “ To the Chairman, Sir,. — I have the honor to report for the past month as follows : —The contractor for forming and recrowning the North Orari road is making satisfactory progress with this work. During the month I have built a concrete culvert on the Boundary road and repaired the bridge over the Raupo creek on Walker’s road; on stripping this bridge I found that (with the exception of the railing and two girders), the whole of the timber work was more or less decayed, and I have, therefore, put in seven fresh girders, new decking, and capsills. I have not invited fresh tenders for ford and cutting sit Waitohi, as I have been informed that in consequence of Section 17282 having changed hands, the work is not now required. Birds and eggs—During the month I have purchased 4,360 dozen of eggs and young birds at a cost of £36 6s Bd. This sum and the amount expended by members will about make up the total the board decided to spend in the purchase of eggs and birds. Rates —£864 12s 7d of this year’s rate has been collected to date. —I have, etc., “F. Archer.” It was resolved to discontinue the purchase of eggs after the present week. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £79 4s 4d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated. GERALDINE TOWN BOARD. The monthly meeting of the above board was held on Tuesday evening, when there were present Messrs A. White (chairman), J. Mundell, N. Dunlop, J. Williams, A. Sherratt, R. Hammond, and W. S. Maslin. CORRESPONDENCE, Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the Property Tax Department, i iforming the Board, in reply to their application for payment of rates on Crown lands, that general rates ceased to he payable by the Crown for any term after the 31st March, 1890. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands stating that no moneys accrue to fie credit of the board in respect of lands Xjt or sold within the Geraldine Town District, except as regards Town Sections Nos. 311, 312, 313, and 314. GORSE ON ROAP, Permission was granted to Mr George Ward to plough the road near Mr King’s for the purpose of killing gorse. REPORTS. The overseer’s report pointed out that some evil-disposed persons had thrown bvige stones into the water-nice at the top culvert. —It was agreed to prosecute such persons, when found out, under the Police Offences Act. The ranger’s report on stray cattle was read, and the ranger waited on the board to inform them that a tenant of the board’s had given him a great deal of trouble with his cattle. —It was agreed to take action against persons having cattle at large under the Police Offences Act, which obviates the necessity for impounding the cattle. THE BY-LAWS. On the motion of Mr Dunlop it was agreed that the whole board be a committee to meet and consider the by-laws, and that the board’s solicitor be asked to be present. ACCOUNTS. The pay-sheet amounted to £25 0s 7d. GENERAL. The elerk was granted leave of absence for one week. It was agreed to place the name of the Rev. J. Preston on the rate-roll with respect to the parsonage, in the place of the Trustees of the Church of England. The works committee were instructed to visit Mr Morrison’s section and see what can be done to prevent cattle crossing the water-race at a part where it is asphalted across.
