CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington yards on Wednesday the sale of store sheep was brisk, but the entry was limited. Prices advanced a trifle on all lines, which were cleared as follows: —Two-tooth crossbreds, 9s to 9s lOd; four tooth, 11s 6d to lls lOd; sound-mouthed breeding ewes 9s 9d; merino ewes in the wool, 7s 6d; and shorn merino wethers, 3s lOd. Fat Lambs —A small entry met a willing market, and all lines were cleared at a decided advance. Best sheep, quality suitable for export, were too dear for the freezers’ liking, reaching 13s, while, with the exception of a few that were cheaper at the beginning of the sale, prices all round were fully 9d to Is better than at the Christmas sale.
Fat Sheep—Owing to the presence of two or three new buyers, values for all the best sheep advanced a little, and as some very prime cross and Down sheep were yarded the sale was brisker. Lines of wethers and maiden ewes weighing from 601 b to 701 b sold from 12s to 14s 9d, yielding a return, minus skins and fat, of 2jd per j}>. The sale of good sorts of crossbred ewes was proportionately brisker, an average of Ifd being secured for tliis class. There was a noticeable absence of inferior quality meat, only one or two pens of second rate merinos being offered, and these were bought for grazing. Fat Cattle The beef sale was the worst held in the yards this season. There was absolutely no demand for good quality pfesi’s and heifers, and those entered were withdrawhj the only animals sold being cows and second-class heifers. These brought from 10s to 12s (id per 1001 b. Less' than a dozen steers and decent heifers were disposed of at 15s per 1001 b, Store Cattle Owing to the small entry, the sale was very unimportant, Two-year-olds sold readily at 50s to 54s Od, and the sale of dry cows was satisfactory, prices ranging from £1 to £3, according to quality and condition. Pigs—Of the 100 offered the principal number were ,sp.qres } which sold fairly well The sale of porkers was limited, the best sorts only realising from 2Jd to 2£d per Jb, ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Dec. 30. New Zealand 3$ per cents, have risen h, and Christchurch 6 pgr cent, stock has risen £l. The butter market is dull, owing to the bad state of the weather. The imports of frozen mutton for the year are equal to 16.20 per cent, of the total consumption throughout the United Kingdom. The Standard says that the market has been rendered dull owing to shippers not contracting for forward supplies. The imports of frozen mutton for the year amounted to 14,750,000 carcases. The American visible supply of wheat is 66,600,000 bushels.
