TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS FOR TIMARU CALEDONIAN SPORTS. kN the Ist and 2nd January there will V_y be a train from Ashburton to Timaru in the morning and back in the evening, instead of the usual OrariTimaru service. In the morning it will leave Rangitata at 8.25 a.m., Orari 8.46, Winchester 8.59, Temuka 9.12, Washdyke 9.39, arriving at Timaru at 9.50 a.m. ; arid in the evening will leave Timaru at 5.35 p.m., Washdyke 5.47, Temuka 6.17, Winchester 6.32, Orari 6.47, Rangitata 7.8, stopping at • all stations if required. LYTTELTON REGATTA. Through Morning Train to Christchurch N the Ist January, instead of the ordinary 7.25 a.m. train from Timaru to Ashburton, and the 11 a.m. train from Ashburton to Christchurch, a train will leave Timaru for Christchurch at 7.10 a.m., arriving there at 12.15 p.m. It will be due from Temuka at 7.45 a.m., Winchester 7.57, Orari 8.9, Rangitata 8 26., stopping all stations if required. TINWALD RACES, Ist JANUARY. THERE will be a train from Timaru to Ashburton at 11.55 a.m., as on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. An evening train from Ashburton to Timaru will run, starting at 5.35 p.m., and running 1 hour 45 minutes later than the times of the train on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. No goods traffic on Ist January. BY ORDER. GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL. SPECIAL ORDER. AT A SPECIAL MEETING of the Council of the County of Geraldine, held in the Council's Office on Wednesday, November 25th, 1891, the following Resolution making a SPECIAL ORDER was passed:— That this Council, in pursuance of the powers vested in it by " The Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886," that this Council do make and levy a Special Annual Recurring Rate of One Halfpenny (£d) in the (£) pound for each year, commencing from the first day of January and ending on 31st day of December, on the rateable value of all property within the limits of that portion of the County of Geraldine called or known as the " Englarged Waitohi Flat Water Supply District," to provide the interest and annual charges upon an authorised loan of (£3000) three thousand pounds, raised by the Council under the provisions of "The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886," for the purpose of constructing special public works, consisting of Water-races, within such portion or district exclusively. Such rate to come into force on the first day of February, 1892, and to be payable in one sum—on the first day of May in each year, for a period of twenty-six years, until the said loan is paid off.

This Special Order is to take effect on the Ist day of February, 1892, and will be confirmed at a Meeting of the Geraldine County Council to be held on WEDNESDAY, the (sth day of January, 1892.
