RHEUMATISM AND GOUT.

Rheumatism is a peculiar condition of the system, in which the blood is acid, or contains an excessive amount of lactic and uric acids. It can never be present, nor can it develop where there is not defective action, as if the kidneys an liver are in proper condition, the lactic and uric acids would be eliminated from the blood, and the disease would thus bo' practically impossible. It will, therefore, be at once apparent that rheumatism is not a disease, but a symptom of a disease, viz., defective kidney and liver action, and that its removal depends upon the restoration of the kidneys and liver to their proper functions. When the blood becomes surcharged with these acids, we have the known as acute rheumatism, accompanied by inflammation, fever, swelling of the joints, quick pulse, hot dry skin, and highly colored scanty water, with almost invariably a deposit of brickdust. When these acids settle as a solid substance in the joints, enlarging them and impeding their action, the result is chronic rheumatism. It is distinguished by the absence of fever, the soreness of the joint, and the stiffness of the muscles. Rheumatism is called “ Lumbago ” when in the back, “ Gout ” when in the joints of the feet, and “ Sciatica ” when the sciatic nerve is attacked. Warner’s safe rheumatic cure in connection with Warner’s safe cure always produces the desired result. It has direct neutral effect upon the acid condition and its many manifestations, while Warner’s safe cure restores the kidneys and liver to their proper functions, and cuts off the supply of acids upon which the severity of the condition depends. , '

We could fill columns with letters from our patrons, but must be content with but a few. Perth, West Australia, December Bth, 1891. It is almost 25 years since I first experienced periodical attacks of lumbago and muscular rheumatism. I suffered much from pains in the back, and a stiffness in the shoulder blades. Towards the end of 1888, I was confined to my bed. suffering from a swelling in the knees. My knees continued to swell, and feverish symptoms set in, I had lost all power of motion, and had to be lifted from the bed to the sofa and back during my protracted illness. When in imminent danger, and death would have come as a relief, I started with the use of Warner’s safe cure alternately with the Warner’s safe rheumatic cure, and instantly my condition took a turn for the better. The urine became clearer, the awful pains lessened, and the use of my limbs returned. I took in all some 21 bottles of the medicine and occasionally some safe pills, and have since been free from any attack of gout or muscular rheumatism. W. Strickland, Proprietor, United Service Hotel. January, 21st 1891. Beverley West Australia. For seven years I have suffered from chronic rheumatism, which is hereditary in my family, and for several years I could not get about without the aid of crutches. The pains would start in the soles of the feet, which would swell considerably as did also my legs. The doctor’s medicine had no effect, and I also tried a number of advertised preparations without being benefited. Meanwhile my pains became unbearable. I heard of Warner’s safe cure and Warner’s rheumatic cure, and procured both, this was last year. A few months after its use, my pains and all swellings were removed, and I could walk without crutches. In all I took 12 bottles of safe cure and 6 bottles of safe rheumatic cure, and gratefully I make known the wonderful change effected. Jas. Craig,
