GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
' The monthly meeting of the above board whs held yesterday. Present — Messrs Flatman (chairman) j Kelland, Deßenzy, Metcalf, and Brophy. ' ' \ TENDERS, Tenders were received for works as follows : , No. 345— Tagg’s Road—Arthur Coles, £32 ; No signature (informal), £3l ; Timothy Sugruo, £2918s (accepted). No. 346—For building bridges near Kakahu—Robert \ Rae, £64 ; Arthur Coles, £53; J, H. F>ean, £49 15s; John ftufley, m 6s j Billings 6a j
Sherratt & Newport, £3B 14s 6d, (accepted). CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the Geraldine County Council, advising that the board’s second moiety of contribution to the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and Timaru Harbor Board rate were due. — Passed for payment. From Mr William Palmer, asking to have his name struck from the rate roll i for four sections at North Orari, which he had Isold to Mr Eugene O’Connor—Mr Palmer to see the assessor in the matter. From the Temuka Town Board, re the the alterations in the Electoral Districts
of South Canterbury.—lt was resolved—- ; “ That the board approve of the action taken by the Temuka Town Board, and regret to learn that the Commissioners have not acceded to the recommendation.” From Mr E. Tavener, Belfield, asking if the board would be willing to renew the lease he holds on reserve, when it expires :in May next, on the same terms for a period of five years. —’The board is willing to renew for a further term of five years, the tenant to pay cost of lease, if any. From Messrs Smithson Raymond and Smith, stating that they had sent transfer of land in exchange for reserve 1375, Woodside, requesting him to execute same and return it. They had received no reply to this and three further letters, and asked the board to consider the matter. —The chairman to see Mr Nalder. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, in reply to Board’s memo, in reference to the spread of gorse from certain Crown lauds, stating that schedules comprising section 35930 and reserve 1821 had been sent to the head office for notification and the lands would probably be thrown open for selection in December or January. Re Lot 54, Reserve 389, Waihi, he presumed the board referred to subdivisions 21 and 22 of lot formerly held by Mr Lewis. These sections would be put up for sale by public auction after 30 days notification. overseer’s report. The overseer reported as under : « The contracts in hand are progressing favorably. No. 341—Shingling Donkin’s Road, Wailii Bush, has been completed since last meeting. No. 344 Bridle Track, Waihi Gorge: This work has been delayed by the contractors his men being laid up with the prevailing epidemic, but they are now at work, and will finish in a few days. No. 345, Jessep’s and Lynn’s roads : Good
progress is being made on this contract. The undermentioned works have been attended to, viz.:—(1) Drain at Alien’s Creek, near dairy factory ; (2) Diverting stream at Waihi crossing, Woodbury ; (3) Making passable track to Maori Gully Bush, to allow Mr Walker to get his engines to the bush lately purchased. Tenders have been invited for two new bridges in the Beautiful Valley Gorge. I have obtained a quantity of sawn timber for the above. Tagg’s road: I have called tenders for this road, due this day, since which Mr Kimbell has applied to have the Bush road made passable so as to allow of his getting out timber from Townsend’s Gully. Poisoned wheat: A small supply has been obtained, prepared on an improved principle ; the cost is increased two shillings per bushel. General rate : I have collected and paid in to date, the sum of £1032 13s; this leaves a balance of £l9O 6s 2d outstanding, of which £l3B 4s 5d is owing by one ratepayer. — I have, etc., « Wm. Shiers, “ Overseer.” The report was considered satisfactory, and the overseer was instructed to report on Mr Kimbell’s application, RATES. It was resolved—“ That all unpaid rates be sued for if not paid in a fortnight from date. INTER. IBW. Mr Gillicuddy waited on the board to have a fence put round his gravel reserve at Orari. —The board agreed to pay half the cost of fencing, and the reserve to be left open.
ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £417 13s were passed for payment. The board then rose.
