WOODBURY SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above committee was held on December sth, 1891. PresentMessrs Dean (chairman), Flatman, Webb, Gick, and Fiiield. Correspondence was read From the secretary Board of Education, enclosing Messrs Cooling and Harris's letter to the board giving their reason for resigning as members of the committee. The letter was as follows :—" The chairman Education Board. Dear Sir, —We, the undersigned, beg to call the attention of the board to the disgraceful proceedings which are being carried on at the meetings of the Salvation Army by •itone throwing, and otherwise damaging the schoolroom. In order to make sure, myself and Mr Harris, another member of the committee, went and watched for an hour or so. The stone throwing was simply disgraceful. On examination afterwards we found five holes in the roof. At a committee meeting held the other evening'it was proposed that the Salvation Army get the building free for their services any time between six in the morning and six in the evening, if used after that to pay ten shillings per night. An amendment was moved, which was oarried, that things remain as they are, consequently three of the committee resigned. We wish it to be distinctly understood that we have no prejudice •gainst the Salvation Army or its services,.but, as members of the committee, we thought it our duty to protect the board's property. 1 think we have stated the facts of the case sufficiently to bring it under the notice of the board.—AVe are, &c, W. Cooling and Joseph Harris, Householders."—The board's letter, demanding a full account of the alleged disgraceful proceedings for the information of the board, together with Messrs Cooling and Harris's letter, to be returned to the board. It was resolved that the chairman write a letter to the board explaining the matter. From the same, stating that the sum of ' £5 had been placed to the credit of the committee as incidentals for quarter ending 31st December, 1891.
