Mr Macdonald’s Bankruptcy.—ln his sworn statement Mr T. Kennedy Macdonald attributed his failure to the pressure of Mr Thomas Bell, liquidator of the firm of Holmes and Bell, merchants, Blenheim, who filed a petition in the Supreme Court to have him declare 1 a bankrupt. He declared that had it not been for Mr Bell’s action he would S ave been able to arrange for the payment of all his liabilities. Mr Skerritt, who appeared for Mr Bell, said that it was absolutely untrue that Messrs Holmes and Bell were the cause of the bankruptcy. The following resolution was carried: creditors at this their first meeting desire to express sympathy with Mr Macdonald in the circumstances which have forced him into bankruptcy, and recommend to the favourable consideration of the Court his applications for immediate discharge.” Mr Skerritt opposed the resolution on the ground that a man in Mr Macdonald’s position in the city, should not be allowed to get discharged until a full investigation had been mede into his affairs. He said this in kindness to the debtor himself, and did not for one moment impute that there was anything in his affairs that would not bear a full investigation.
