The overseer reported that the rents were not coming in promptly, and he was instructed to insist upon payment of same at once. overseer’s report. The overseer reported as follows - Sir, —I have the honor to report that since last meeting the contractor for shingling Gamack Street has completed his ontract. A pipe culvert has been put in at its junction with Denmark Street and well covered. The contractor did not comply fully with the specification as to the output of loads, and is therefore liable to a penalty. As a slight modification of this, however, I would point out that he carted all the shingle from Hamilton Street instead of Maude Street, an extra distance of about 20 chains. He has not yet commenced the formation of Princes Street, but promises to commence not later than Monday, and to then pat on extra strength. The creek above Mr Washington's has been cleaned, as directed, and a man has been employed for one day in dressing crossings. I have invited tenders for a bridge over the creek near Mr Hobbs’s in three forms, viz., timber, with earthwork approaches, timber deck with concrete abutments, ’and in the form of a concrete culvert. The specifications are submitted for your approval. Constable Egan has inspected the premises of Mr McLeod under authority. I understand the removal of pigstyes has been recommended. The postmaster has forwarded me a requisition for signature by inhabitants who are desirous of having letters left at Mr Prattley’s store. It has had attention. The Temuka Road Board has unofficially intimated to me its willingness to have Gravel Reserve 1212 jointly vested in the boards. I have notified the Land Board re same. Thistles upon certain roads require to be cut. —I have, etc., A ; W. Gaze. The overseer was instructed to have the thistles grabbed out. Re shingling contract.—The overseer drew attention to the work of the shingling contractor and asked if any penalty was to be enforced. He explained the circumstances. Mr Frew moved—“ That in consideration of the fact that the contractor had carted all the shingle from an extra distance that the penalty be not enforced, although it had really been incurred.” Seconded by Mr Brown and carried. TENDERS. The overseer read the specifications for the bridge near Mr Hobbs’. Under class A, concrete and timber, G. H. Lynch, £42 10s; class B, timber deck and earthwork approach, Jas. Davis, £36 2s ; class C, concrete culvert, G. H. Lynch, £43 7s. The tenders were very carefully considered, and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Brown, seconded by Mr Russell —“ That the tender of J. H. Lynch for the concrete culvert class O be accepted.” The motion was carried unanimously. ALEXANDRA STREET. Mr Brown drew attention to the gully in Alexandra Street, which he had inspected in company with Mr Frew. Mr Frew said that a cutting would shorten the road considerably for a number of people who desired to come to the township or to the Wesleyan or Primitive Methodist Churches. It was resolved that the overseer at fjgjjce invite tenders for the cutting the same to be accepted by the chairman. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £25 9s 3d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
